                              An Unforgetable Fortnight

It has been a great priviledge for me to be a part of 'ICT in Classroom' Teachers' Training Programme Facilitated by Mr. Batuk Lal Tamang, the Headteacher of Annapurna Secondary School. His restless efforts as a textbook of English language and practicebook writer together with an English language teachers' trainer have taken him to the height of absolute popularity among the English language practioners in Nepal. Recently, he has added a new title in the field of his introduction as an expert of ICT facilitator and trainer in the district.
Most schools in our country have been running in quite traditional method in the field of teaching learning methodology. Although there are some schools well equipped with modern tools of teaching learning aids, they are also lagging behind in the context of teaching using tools because either the teachers aren't well trained or they are not professional. In such situation it becomes quite challenging to impart knowledge in an effective way. this one week training has given us new empowerment to make our teaching more effective. Many of us who even didn;t know most of the gadgets' names used in ICT have been able to handle them successfully. Moreover, we who didn't know more about social media and multi media have been able to create our own gmail ID, Create and share slodes and we also know making blogs and digital whiteboard. We are able to set and operate smart board and multimrdia projector too. We are also able to use Audacity in our language classroom now which will be quite helpfool in promoting our students' speaking skill in the days that follow.
Tomorrow is the final day of our training program. We'll add a lot of knowledge regarding using ICT in our classroom and make our classes more lively. We will strongly urge our school principal to provide us a spacious room with an internet connection where we could lunch our ICT based language classes. And in future there will be ICT based classes in every classrooms.
Finally, I'd like to offer my vote of thanks to the embessy of the United States for Choosing a dedicated professional teacher to impart ICT knowledge to teachers like us. I'd also like to Congratulate all the participants to get such opportunity to be ICT equipped teacher in the district. And I'd offer my sincere gratitude to Mr. Tamang to spare his valuable time with us during the training. I wish that all the Headteachers from public and private school will be inspired by this popurar Headteacher and make their school an ICT school for lively classes.

Observing an Article from Phyak Prem Bahadur

Hello e- friends,
Today evening I read an article  from Mr. Prem Bahadur Phayak. He has been teaching at Tribhuwan University in the central department of English,Kathmandu Nepal. The goal of his writing was to plan and conduct action research which involved changes related to modern technology in class room.
He reveals the bitter truth of having a huge mass of students in majority of the the same section of a college or a university in Nepal. The students have to write a research paper in the final semester of university examination but majority of them have no any background of research writing. Mr. Phayak had been facilitating 20 students implementing modern technology to help them develop their research writing. His students belonged to different geographical topography, economic status interest, reach and interest. His students preferred exploring different materials like books, research reports. They like more interactions and discussions with their facilitator in class which is apparently impossible because of large size class. So the instructors conduct lecturer method ,however the author chooses using modern technology like email, internet and other resources. The students lack internet access and it's new to many of them.
The university library on the other hand lacks international journals so there are limited research works in language education. The other threat to the students is that there is almost 12 hrs power-cut which also hampers the use of internet or the students are compelled to go to the cyber cafe spending a hefty amount of money daily.
To cope with this hazard the author told his students about the importance of email, internet and also helped them open their e-mail id. He prepared his plan based on ABCD style and instructed them with various useful web sites . He told the students to pay him a regular visit to discuss upon the matter they want to know. Later on he found that the students were using the technology effectively. They learnt the usefulness of technology in the field of teaching, research skills, academic writing and so on so forth.
The author found a lot of changes in his students . He admits that in the beginning they had a lot of problems and later on the integration of technology brought a lot of behavioural changes in his students.
This experimental article has brought a kind of courage in me too. Because I'm also new in using modern technology in teaching but in near future I'll deserve a good command over interactive web like the author Mr. Phayak.
Best regards,
Khem Lal Pahari
